John, we’re less than 70 days away from Election Day – and we need your help to protect every voter.
Before you rush to check your calendar, don’t worry – We're not talking about 2026… but if you care about next year’s midterms being free and fair, you should keep reading.
This coming November 4th, California will vote on a redistricting plan meant to counterbalance Texas, which did an utterly unprecedented mid-decade redraw to accommodate Donald Trump’s request for five new GOP seats.
As the nationwide leader for fair redistricting, Common Cause decided not to oppose California’s plan – because they followed the fairness criteria our experts put out. [1]
But with control of the U.S. House potentially hanging in the balance, you can be certain that both parties will be spending millions of dollars to swing the outcome.
And with all that national attention comes misleading ads (like the mailer that falsely claimed Common Cause opposed new maps), anti-voter dirty tricks, and even outright attempts at intimidating people out of having their voices heard.
So Common Cause is doing what we do best – rapidly building up an off-year Election Protection program to make sure California voters – and only California voters – decide how they are represented in Washington D.C.
Here’s the challenge we’re facing: typically, we have months – not weeks – to plan and implement our Election Protection.
And we’ve got big plans for 2026 – but running an additional Election Protection effort for 2025, in the largest state in the country, all because Donald Trump wanted to protect the GOP lawmakers who voted for his healthcare cuts, just wasn’t something we budgeted for.
Recruiting and training volunteers. Educating voters. Data-driven targeting to make sure we’re at the highest-risk polling places. All of this is necessary – but expensive work – and we don’t want a resource crunch to force our team to choose between voters in 2025 and those same voters in 2026.
That’s where you come in, John. Each volunteer we field costs around $50 – covering expert training, legal backup, and tech infrastructure to support them on Election Day.
How many volunteers we can field is dependent on how much we can raise between now and November. Please chip in $50 – or whatever you can spare – to sponsor a volunteer today >>
