On August 4, Rwanda’s parliament passed a groundbreaking new law that expands access to sexual and reproductive health care for adolescents. Thanks to this reform, young people aged 15 and above can now seek contraception, HIV prevention, and other essential care without parental consent—an urgently needed change that will help reduce teenage pregnancy and safeguard health and futures. The new law also establishes the country’s first framework for assisted reproductive technologies.
This victory is the direct result of years of work led by the Center for Reproductive Rights and partners. We engaged policymakers, amplified youth voices, and leveraged international human rights standards to drive reform. With your support, the Center is not only dismantling harmful barriers to care in Rwanda but also setting a powerful precedent for reproductive rights across the region.
