This month, our staff carried out a Day Laborer Outreach at the Lemon Grove Home Depot. We distributed essential items, including Gatorades, work gloves, masks, food, hygiene kits, t-shirts, neon vests, safety goggles, and Know Your Rights cards and resources. These supplies provide immediate support, but they also represent something larger: recognition of the dignity and humanity of day laborers who are too often overlooked and denied basic protections.
While security was present, they did not intervene in our efforts. At other locations, however, workers have faced harassment and intimidation, and the continuation of the ongoing targeting of immigrant and working-class communities.
This work is critical. We will continue to stand with day laborers and fight for their safety, rights, and dignity.

This weekend, our Caravan of Love visited Rayito de Luz for the first time, a shelter that primarily supports children and families in Tijuana. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we delivered hygiene kits, clothing, kids’ items, and other essential supplies to those rebuilding their lives with courage and hope.
We also want to thank Luis from our partner organization PsicĂłlogos Sin Fronteras for helping deliver donations to JardĂn de las Mariposas.
We are deeply grateful to our dedicated volunteers who made this day possible and continue to show up with love and solidarity
If you’d like to help, you can contribute items directly via our wishlist below. Want to join us next time? Scroll down to Volunteer Opportunities to sign up for our next one!

Looking back at our August effortsÂ
|
|
This month, we established a new route with 4 drop locations for our Water Drop and a dedicated team of 14 volunteers, including 4 new faces joining us for the first time.
It was a successful day, but also a reminder of just how dangerous this work is, for both volunteers and the people we aim to support. One of our volunteers fell ill during the drop, and thanks to our trained safety monitors, they were quickly cared for and are now recovering.
This moment speaks to the life-threatening risks that migrants face in the desert daily, especially as temperatures continue to climb. That’s why we continue showing up, because every water bottle left behind could mean a life saved.

An Update on Lucas and YeseniaÂ
|
|
|
We want to be transparent with all of you who donated, shared, and stood with us in our fundraiser for Lucas and Yesenia. Because of your generosity, we reached our $4,000 goal to pay their bonds, something we hoped would quickly reunite this mother and father with their young daughter.Â
Unfortunately, even after the immigration judge approved their bonds, DHS submitted an appeal to block their release. This has delayed the process and kept this family separated. Their case is a heartbreaking example of the unfair and inhumane obstacles individuals face in immigration detention. Families who should be together are kept apart while legal processes drag on, adding unnecessary suffering to an already difficult situation.
Although this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we will not give up. We are in constant communication with their daughter and will not stop advocating for this family and working with their attorney to speed up their release. We remain hopeful that we can pay the bond and reunite them, and provide you all with a positive update soon!
Thank you for believing in this family, for supporting our work, and for standing against an unjust system.

We’re honored to share the story of our latest Familias Reunidas bond recipient, Juan. A long-time California resident and father to U.S. citizen children, Juan was detained at Florence Correctional Center for 1 year and 4 months. While in detention, he received bittersweet news, he had become a grandfather for the first time. This milestone, filled with joy, was also heartbreaking to experience from behind bars.
Juan’s bond was set at an incredible $20,000, our second-highest bond to date. Thanks to the support of our community and our partnership with the National Bail Fund Network, we were able to pay his bond and secure his release.
Since coming home, Juan has been focused on reconnecting with his family, meeting his grandson for the first time, and rebuilding his life. As a young man, he faced significant challenges with his mental health. Today, he is committed to healing, mentoring youth, and working toward his dream of becoming a pastor.

Army base used for WWII Japanese internment will be nation's largest ICE detention center
Americans of Japanese heritage say they hear echoes of their families' forced internment in the Trump administration's newest immigrant detention site.
Homeland Security officials say President Donald Trump's sweeping mass deportation campaign requires a build-up of detention centers to bridge the gap between arrests and removals. They've turned to the U.S. military and private contractors to get the job done, including erecting the nation's largest immigrant detention site on Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.

Pregnant US citizen arrested by ICE went into labor prematurely in CA, claim says
A Los Angeles woman who was 9 months pregnant went into labor prematurely after she was wrongly arrested and assaulted by immigration agents, according to her attorneys.
Cary Lopez Alvarado, who is a U.S. citizen, was detained June 8 when she told U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol agents that they needed a warrant upon their arrival at a private property in Hawthorne, a federal tort claim filed Aug. 20 on her behalf says.
