FACT: Proposition 50 is fair and proportional. It provides emergency maps ONLY because Republicans moved forward with their power grab.
FACT: The ballot measure puts the power in the hands of the voters to approve emergency congressional district maps.
FACT: Gov. Gavin Newsom and California Democrats promoting this measure are just aiming to level the playing field by making sure the 2026 Midterm Elections are conducted without an unfair advantage for Republicans.
FACT: This measure does not turn our back on fair redistricting. This measure reaffirms California’s commitment to independent redistricting and calls on all states to commit to fair and impartial maps. Additionally, Proposition 50 is temporary and will expire in 2030 to allow our Independent Redistricting Commission to draw new maps after the next census.
