Young people are key to opposing authoritarianism

Hey there John, it's Varsha

If you follow us on TikTok you’ve probably seen my face. I’m a PhD historian, and I'm involved with Sunrise Movement because when I look at history, it is so clear that we are living through record, unprecedented times. 2025 is on track to be the second-hottest year on record (just behind last year), with blistering heat waves and toxic wildfire smoke. Now, hurricane season is starting, and it’s likely to be a doozy.

Trump’s climate plan? Gut FEMA’s budget and reassign staff to ICE. Instead of preparing for storms, our government is investing in cages and riot gear. This is unthinkable.

But just because these are unprecedented times doesn't mean history doesn't have lessons for us. We know from history that when authoritarian regimes fail to take root, it is because young people and workers stand up to the corrupt agenda that threatens to destroy their futures.

Can you chip in $20 to train and support young organizers who are demanding real climate solutions from our politicians?

Donate $20

Our fight is about more than clean energy, it’s about demanding a government that keeps us safe and that refuses to let authoritarianism grow under the cover of climate emergencies.

There’s only one road out of this crisis. We’re going to hold polluters and the Trump administration accountable for the crisis they’ve created and fight against Trump’s deadly austerity and incompetence. He’s got the fossil fuel billionaires on his side, but we’ve got you.

If you’ve been sweating it out this summer and you’re worried about your neighbors, now is the perfect time to get involved.

Can you give $20 today towards training and support for young organizers standing up to the trained PR of the fossil fuel industry and the brutality of the Trump administration?

Together, we can demand a government that protects people, not polluters or profiteers. Thank you for being part of this movement. Let’s fight and win the world we deserve.

In solidarity,

Varsha
