Dear Friend,

Access to safe water is about more than just health. For rural families in India it saves time, money, and improves their overall quality of life. This #WorldWaterWeek, we are celebrating people and lives transformed by in-line chlorination.

** Why water?
------------------------------------------------------------

Evidence ([link removed]) shows that safe water access is one of the most effective ways to save children’s lives and improve health outcomes. It’s why we’ve run water programs ([link removed]) in 4 countries for 12 years.

** Why India?
------------------------------------------------------------

In a major achievement, the government of India has expanded ([link removed]) access to piped water through millions of rural household tap connections, bringing water directly into homes that once relied on distant or unreliable sources. We partner with the government to help ensure that water is safe to drink.

** How does safe water improve lives?
------------------------------------------------------------

In addition to improving health by reducing conditions like diarrhea, vomiting, and typhoid which can be especially dangerous and life threatening for young children, safe water is deeply valued by communities for other reasons.

Access to safe water saves you time:

Kona Surya Durga had been responsible for ensuring her village had safe water for years. This required carrying a heavy bucket of disinfectant up a water tower, which was exhausting and dangerous. Today, with in-line chlorination, accessing clean drinking water is easier, safer, and less time-consuming for her and her community.

“After the installation, both the workload and time required have significantly reduced.” she said. “Earlier, most household members were not interested in drinking tank water, but now, [the majority] are drinking it.”

Access to safe water saves you money:

Lingala Baby Kumari, mother of two and caretaker to an ailing husband, was further burdened by the cost of safe drinking water. With new in-line chlorination devices providing safe water at no cost to residents, her family’s health and financial situation has improved. This helped her so much, she has dedicated her valuable time as a volunteer field coordinator, inspecting the devices to ensure they are functioning.

“I have many challenges in my family, but I am always ready to spare time for the betterment of the community because the community is also my family. Everyone deserves safe drinking water.”

Access to safe water improves your quality of life:

Ram Nivas became a vocal advocate for the new in-line chlorination system, visiting homes to spread awareness and monitor improvements.

“Water scarcity was a nightmare for us, especially during the dry months. We would wait in long queues at distant water sources, sometimes returning with just a pot of muddy water. But today, I can cook, clean, and even grow vegetables in my backyard, all thanks to the water connection. It has changed our lives forever!"
