This month in conservation
Congress’ Big Ugly Bill, Green Tie Madison, protecting private well owners, and more…

Hi John,

Congress and Pres. Trump recently passed what they call the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” but the truth is, there’s nothing beautiful about it. This bill is going to do serious damage to our communities, like raise energy costs, cause a loss of jobs, stall clean energy projects, and exacerbate the climate crisis.

The part that really hurts is that our elected congressmen here in Wisconsin – Rep. Bryan Steil, Rep. Derrick Van Orden, Rep. Scott Fitzgerald, Rep. Glenn Grothman, and Rep. Tony Wied – voted for this bill, even though it will directly harm their constituents.

Tomas Herrera lives in Viroqua, Wisconsin and is represented by Van Orden. He feels like Van Orden turned his back on small businesses like the one he works for, Ethos Green Power Cooperative. Because of this bill, they are going to lose business, the community will lose jobs, and local progress in the area will be stalled. Watch his video here >>>

At Wisconsin Conservation Voters, we will make sure these representatives are held accountable for their actions. Supporters like you make it possible for us to tell stories like Tomas Herrera’s and show the real-world impacts of this legislation. Consider becoming a member today >>> [[link removed]]

Take action to protect private well owners

An estimated one in three Wisconsin families get their drinking water from a private well, but many people don’t know what’s in their water. Bacteria, PFAS, nitrate, lead, and arsenic contamination are just a few of the contaminants facing many of those Wisconsin families.

Our state legislators aren’t investing adequate funding to address this issue and unlike people on municipal water systems who get annual notifications about their water quality, private well owners aren’t always notified when local groundwater is contaminated.

Private well owners deserve to know if their water may be contaminated. Take action now and write your legislators.

The EPA Endangerment Finding is at risk

Donald Trump and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zelden have started an all-out assault on environmental protections. They are trying to terminate the EPA’s 2009 Endangerment Finding, which is the EPA’s best tool to protect us from pollution that comes from cars, trucks, and power plants.

They’re making it clear that our health comes second behind the pocket books of corporate polluters. Watch our video with Erin Bloodgood and get the Inside Scoop on this issue >>> [[link removed]]
