Friend,
As Labor Day weekend approaches, we hope you are planning
some relaxation and fun with family and friends. Labor Day is a time
to honor the hard work you bring to your community, so whether you’re
hosting
a BBQ or heading to the beach, make sure to celebrate
responsibly while reflecting on your
contributions.
This weekend often brings increased traffic on our nation’s
roadways, so it’s important to remain vigilant, drive safely, and obey
the rules of the road. The National Highway
Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) estimates that traffic fatalities
have declined 6.3% in the first three months of 2025, but that still
leaves us with 8,055 lives lost. Responsibility
starts with each of us!
However you choose to spend the last stretch of your summer,
make sure responsibility and safety are part of your plan and
remember:
 |
Drunk and impaired driving crashes are 100% preventable, so
plan ahead to use public transportation, designate a driver, or
schedule a rideshare. If you see someone who is impaired, help them
get home safely. Learn
more about why people decide to drive drunk
so that you can take steps to prevent it.

 |
Always drink
responsibly. Know your limits and use the Virtual
Bar app to safely understand how alcohol affects your blood
alcohol concentration before you take your first sip. |
 |
Talk to your teens. Model
responsible behavior around alcohol, set clear expectations, and never
serve alcohol to anyone under the legal drinking age. Hear
teen driving tips from an expert panel of law enforcement and
traffic safety professionals, and talk to your kids before they hit
the road. |
We wish you a safe, relaxing, and responsible weekend. And
for all those who do not have this day off, thank you for all you do
to keep our nation moving forward.
