While the Trump administration targets patients through its politically motivated attempt to "defund" Planned Parenthood, some state lawmakers are continuing their own attacks on reproductive freedom.

Across the country, states are following President Trump's lead. Lawmakers are doubling down on attacks on Planned Parenthood, Medicaid, and medication abortion — and they're cutting patients off from care.

Here are a few of the biggest threats we're tracking — and how we're fighting back.

Read on, then make a donation to Planned Parenthood Action Fund — because attacks on sexual and reproductive rights threaten reproductive freedom for everyone, everywhere.

TEXAS
Lawmakers introduce medication abortion restrictions and gerrymander congressional map
You've probably already heard that when Republican legislators in Texas redrew the congressional map to favor President Trump, Democratic members of the Texas House of Representatives fled to states like Illinois to delay the vote.

While in Illinois, they joined local Planned Parenthood leaders to show how attacks on reproductive rights in states like Texas hurt patients everywhere. Thousands of patients from Texas have been forced to travel to Illinois for care since 2021, when Texas enacted S.B. 8, one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Texas lawmakers introduced multiple bills to put even more anti-abortion restrictions on the books.

One bill would allow any person to bring a lawsuit against out-of-state health care providers, physicians, manufacturers, and distributors alleged to have helped someone in Texas get a medication abortion — even if that person is in a state where abortion is legal. It's essentially a "bounty hunter" law — like S.B. 8 — aimed at scaring abortion providers and putting care entirely out of reach for Texans in need.

As Texas politicians gerrymander congressional maps, "defund" Planned Parenthood, and make it even harder to get an abortion, patients across the country will suffer the consequences of these political attacks.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund is fighting back. We're mobilizing supporters, fighting for laws that protect care, and holding politicians accountable for attacking our health and rights. Give now to Planned Parenthood Action Fund to fuel this work.

OHIO
State Republicans are trying to "defund" Planned Parenthood
Just a few weeks after President Trump signed a law to "defund" Planned Parenthood, Republican politicians in Ohio introduced their own bill to do the same thing.

The federal law, signed by President Trump in July, blocks Medicaid patients from using their insurance at Planned Parenthood health centers.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America sued the Trump administration and was able to have this law blocked from going into effect. Right now, patients can temporarily use Medicaid at Planned Parenthood health centers to get STI testing, birth control, cancer screenings, and more — but this could be undone at any time.

Now an Ohio bill working its way through the state legislature doubles down on the federal bill. It would put a state-level prohibition on Medicaid funds being used at Planned Parenthood health centers in Ohio, meaning patients in Ohio could be cut off from the care they need, even while the federal law is blocked.

This is a blatant attempt by politicians who want to "defund" Planned Parenthood — with no regard for the patients who will lose access to health care.

Donate now to Planned Parenthood Action Fund to fight to protect access to reproductive health care and power the movement to protect care everywhere.

SOUTH CAROLINA
U.S. Supreme Court ruled against patients' rights, but the fight isn't over
This summer, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against patients' rights in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. The court decided lawmakers can use Medicaid to push their own agenda and impose their personal beliefs on everyone else.

As a result, Medicaid patients may no longer be able to go to Planned Parenthood health centers in South Carolina for birth control, preventive check-ups, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and more essential care.

But Planned Parenthood has never backed down from a fight. Last week, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic filed a lawsuit arguing that blocking its participation in South Carolina's Medicaid program violates its constitutional rights and puts the health and well-being of South Carolinians at risk.

When politicians attack our health care, we don't back down.

That's why Planned Parenthood Action Fund is always ready to fight back against any and all attempts to take control of our bodies — and we need your help. Give now to Planned Parenthood Action Fund to help fight.
