President Trump's Big Ugly Law, which was signed into law on July 4, is negatively impacting Edmonds College and its students who rely on federal assistance. I met with Edmonds College President Dr. Amit Singh to hear firsthand the impacts of the Big Ugly Law.

This month, I also visited Mount Vernon Senior Center to talk about Social Security and Trump's Big Ugly Law.

About 33,000 Skagit County residents received Social Security benefits as of 2022, and about 84% of those residents were seniors. After the Big Ugly Law was signed into law, many people from Northwest Washington have been calling my office and sharing their difficulties accessing their Social Security benefits.

Social Security is a safety net for seniors and for many others as well. It is a way to help people have a level of dignity in their lives, in retirement or otherwise. After years of hard work and people paying into Social Security, they are entitled to the benefits that they've earned.
