Today’s vote could have too easily gone the other way. We must remove Trump so that not one more conservative judge is nominated to the Supreme Court.

This was too close for comfort, John.

In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court struck down an anti-choice Louisiana law today that imposed medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion providers – prohibiting them from performing abortions unless they held admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

Make no mistake: this was not about safety, it was a ploy to shut down clinics.

This law would have left only one abortion clinic open in the entire state of Louisiana and would have opened the floodgates for more attacks on access to reproductive care in states across the country.

This is a victory for our movement and a testament to the power we’ve built, but this vote could have so easily gone the other way. Today shows us just how crucial it is to remove Trump so that he can’t nominate another conservative judge to the Supreme Court.

With just one more nomination, Trump could tip the balance for decades and put our reproductive freedom even more at risk. Can you chip in $5 right now to help kick-start our GOTV efforts leading up to November to oust Trump and protect the court?

We knew the court was split and that the decision would come down to Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh voted to uphold the law limiting abortion access, which we knew he would. That’s why we fought so hard against his nomination and mobilized across the country to defeat him.

Justice Roberts cited judicial precedent as the reason for his vote – proving that things could have gone wildly different today. We can’t risk these chances and we need your help to reach every Women’s Marcher across the country to make sure they know what’s at stake in November and are registered to vote-by-mail.

Our GOTV program has already begun. Right now we are:

  • Calling registered Democrats in key swing states as part of the Turnout2020 campaign to help voters get mail-in ballots.
  • Training volunteers to lead canvasses and talk to voters as part of our Feminist Organizing School.
  • Recruiting volunteers to make calls to infrequent voters and training them on our call tool.
  • Growing the movement of women and femmes who are ready to defeat Trump through digital ads.

We need to do more, but first we need the resources to fund things like call tools, training programs, and digital ads. Can you pitch in whatever you can today to help fund this work?

Today's ruling also reaffirms the fact that abortion being legal never is and never will be enough: we must fight until abortion is accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live and their ability to afford care.

We know this war is far from over and that anti-choice extremists will move on to the next anti-choice law to decimate access. That’s why we must stay vigilant, stay in the fight, and defeat Trump and every anti-choice candidate up and down the ballot in November.

Thank you for being in this fight.
