Truth Initiative awards 15 grants to help campuses quit nicotine

Truth Initiative has announced the recipients of 15 grants awarded to colleges and universities across the nation, each receiving up to $20,000 to support the adoption or implementation of tobacco/nicotine-free policies and provide students, faculty, and staff with resources to quit. Through Truth Initiative's Tobacco/Nicotine-Free College Program, the selected institutions will establish a taskforce to educate the community on nicotine addiction and promote quitting through EX Program, Truth Initiative’s free digital quitting program.

Quitting vaping benefits health – and the environment 

Cheap, high-nicotine, disposable e-cigarettes are dominating the market – and contributing to tons of electronic waste. More than 27 vapes are thrown away every second, amounting to more than 850 million vapes that end up in the street or the landfill each year. When people quit nicotine, they’re helping reduce the amount of electronic waste that ends up in the environment while also breaking free from addiction.

LGBT+ youth and young adults in states with protective policies had more than 50% lower odds of smoking and vaping 

According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, LGBT+ individuals living in states with policies that protect LGBT+ rights had 65% lower odds of current cigarette use and 56% lower odds of current e-cigarette use compared with LGBT+ individuals in states with more restrictive or discriminatory policies.
