August 28, 2025
Greetings, readers!
As of this week, NPQ is taking a much-needed summer break. While we are lucky enough to have a moment to breathe (until we return to work on September 3), chances are you, like many others, have not had much time—if any—to rest. That’s in part because the nonprofit sector is always working—often, harder than it should have to, and for less—otherwise civil society would fall apart. And since January, the nonprofit sector has endured sustained attacks that show no sign of abating while very much trying to keep civil society together and united.
In that spirit, I’ve put together a selection of articles for a summer break special newsletter that are some of the most important news items NPQ has covered since that threatening tide started rolling in.
This issue revisits:
* A News Report ([link removed]) —The White House budget office’s order to halt all federal loans, grants, and financial assistance programs pending administrative review.
* A Policy Analysis ([link removed]) —The battle over tax policies that could fundamentally weaken the nonprofit sector beyond the immediate grant funding threats.
* An Investigation ([link removed]) —Nonprofits choosing self-censorship as a strategy to protect their federal funding amid political pressure.
* My Full List of Picks ([link removed]) —Check out my complete list of 2025 selections.
We’re proud of our coverage of the sector and promise to keep it up, as long as we can. As always, thank you for your readership—and for your good work.
