Dear John,
Donald Trump’s occupation of Washington, D.C., isn’t about crime or homelessness.
It’s a trial run for putting the entire country under martial law.
I don’t want to seem paranoid, but we saw how far Trump would go to attack democracy on January 6. Now he has an utterly subservient Republican Congress, a cabinet full of MAGA lackeys, and immunity from criminal prosecution thanks to the Supreme Court.
Donald Trump is doing everything in his power to make himself dictator, and it’s up to everyday Americans like you and me to stop him.
Thankfully, I’m seeing more and more evidence every day that the American people are turning on Trump. Angry crowds are flooding into Republican town hall meetings, and here at Inequality Media Civic Action, our engagement numbers have skyrocketed, with more than 22 million people now seeing our content every week.
But with our democracy on the brink, we need to ramp up our efforts to sound the alarm and mobilize the grassroots to fight back. Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump’s assault on our democracy?
I suspect that there are six specific things Trump is trying to learn in his trial-run military occupation of Washington, D.C.
1. How aggressively and obediently will the Defense Department and the National Guard follow orders when asked to confront American citizens?
2. How will the federal courts — especially the Supreme Court —
respond to legal challenges? Will they stand in his way or once again
expand his power?
3. Will the media, especially right-wing outlets like Fox
News and Newsmax, go along with a Trump-led military coup d’état?
4. Will it be an effective distraction from the Jeffery Epstein scandal?
5. How will it play with the MAGA base? Trump’s voters are intensely loyal to him, but many are also deeply suspicious of the federal government.
6. How will it play with Republicans in Congress? Trump knows he has them cowed most of the time, but will they back him if and when he goes national with a full-scale military occupation?
Bottom line: If the country goes along with Trump’s occupation of the nation’s capital, he will take that as a signal that he can go even further — and it’s critically urgent that we take action now to stop him.
Will you make a monthly donation to help educate the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump’s assault on our democracy?
Inequality Media Civic Action is working day and night to educate the public and help voters separate Trump’s lies from reality, and it’s working.
Our shares, views, and engagement have skyrocketed, allowing us to reach millions of people beyond our core audience and break through to the broader public. On YouTube alone, the “watch time” of our videos went up a remarkable 10x from the year before.
Better still, we’re not just preaching to the choir. Our audience includes a large number of conservatives and young people who went for Trump in the last election, and scientific A/B testing shows that our content is successfully changing minds among these key groups.
This is exactly the work we need to stop and reverse America’s slide into authoritarianism, and your donations power everything we do. Will you make a monthly donation to help educate and engage the public, get the truth out, and stop Trump’s assault on our democracy?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
