Dear LIRS Supporter,
In recent months, it's been inspiring to see people take action for justice and to protect the health and safety of their communities.
And maybe you've been taking note of the many contributions to these efforts made by refugees — from the work of refugee doctors and nurses on the front lines during the coronavirus pandemic, to young Somali refugees leading racial justice protests in Minnesota.
During this time, there are many ways to offer help and healing in our country and throughout the world. But if you're not sure where to start, here are some suggestions to help you put your faith and values into actionto protect refugees and immigrants:
- CALL your Members of Congress when important decisions are being made on legislation.
- WRITE a personal letter or email expressing your point of view.
- ORGANIZE a sign-on letter from your faith or community group.
- ATTEND a town hall meeting organized by your elected official. (During the pandemic, attend tele or virtual town halls.)
- When social distancing guidelines are lifted, INVITE your local representatives to visit your church, organization, or community event. This can be one of the most powerful ways to introduce them to our community and hear our collective voice!
You can learn more about positive actions you can take at https://www.lirs.org/take-action/. Thank you for taking action for refugees and immigrants, and for encouraging others in your community to do the same. With much gratitude,
