Every June, my union, UNITE HERE, turns out thousands of hospitality workers in dozens of cities across the U.S. and Canada to commemorate Pride Month. But like everything else these days, our annual parades and parties that we look forward to every year became yet another casualty of COVID-19. And while might not be able to march together in the parades this year, there are still ways for us to come together to honor the history and essence of what Pride is all about.
So, in the spirit of celebration and reflection, I’d like to invite you to join me this Tuesday, June 30, for UNITE HERE’s first-ever “UNION PRIDE” livestream event.
Right now, we’re facing an unprecedented moment of three interconnected crises—a public health crisis, a growing economic crisis, and the crisis of racial injustice and deep-rooted racism in our country. Among those that have been impacted the harshest by these concurrent crises are the frontline service and hospitality workers that will be joining me on Tuesday.
From the debate over reopening, to organizing in a socially distant world, to speaking truth to the power structures that want to hold us all down, please RSVP here and tune in on Tuesday to “UNION PRIDE,” for a bold conversation with the frontline workers fighting back against it all.
In solidarity,
Cleve Jones, UNITE HERE
