Jonathan Henry did not come to the Special Olympics Winter World Games in Turin to give up…
In the all-important 500-meter speedskating final, Jonathan fell hard on the very first turn. His chin split open. Most athletes would have been done.
Not Jonathan. He got patched up on the spot, stepped out onto the ice, and WON THE BRONZE – all in honor of his late teammate and friend, Jordan.
THIS is the best of sports: commitment, courage, and care for others. Right now, we are hoping to inspire 200 donors by August 31 so every athlete with intellectual disabilities (ID) can get in the game. Make a gift now, so athletes just like Jonathan can keep training and competing their hearts out – so the best of sports never stops!

At Special Olympics, the best of sports means a few things: finding community over cutthroat competition, achieving personal bests without judgment, and believing in — and celebrating — the pure joy of playing the game.
And that is exactly what Jonathan showed back in Turin: racing through pain to honor his teammate and discover just how strong he could be. Stories like his remind all of us what is possible when athletes with ID have a place where they TRULY belong.
Help keep this promise and power of Special Olympics alive. Keep the best of sports going! Give before August 31 and be one of the 200 donors who can make it possible for the next athlete on the sidelines →
