Artists are like canaries in a coal mine. We feel deeply, notice the world’s shifts, and bring this into our creative practices. I strive to create art that inspires empathy for the natural world—and if it brings joy and connection along the way, all the better.

As a visual artist and activist raising awareness about the fragility of the natural world, I support Maine Conservation Voters (MCV). They build coalitions at the intersection of the environment and our democracy, fighting back against the daily attacks on both. A healthy democracy protects all life—not just humans, but also the plants, animals, soil, air, and water that nurture us. MCV puts this belief into action. They’ve helped pass landmark laws to transition Maine to clean energy; stood up to corporate polluters to protect our communities from dangerous chemicals, such as PFAS; and defended voting rights to ensure every voice is heard. 

MCV’s goal is to recruit 25 new monthly donors to power this critical work. Our democracy depends on people’s trust in our institutions. That trust can be shaken in many ways, including by powerful interests and voices that seek to divide us. Yet despite our differences, we remain connected through the air we breathe, the water we drink, and our shared hopes for the health and safety of our families and communities.
