Happy Pride Month, friends!
This picture, hanging in my office, is one of my all-time favorites.
Each time I see it, I can’t help but think of how much progress we have made for the LGBTQ+ community since this parade back in 2012. Landmark decisions in state governments and the Supreme Court have helped ensure that LGBTQ+ folks have the right to marry, start families, and keep their jobs.
However, there is still work to be done, as LGBTQ+ folks, especially Black Trans Women, are still targets of violence and hatred. All of us have a responsibility to stand up, speak out and advocate on behalf of the vulnerable, and to fight for social, and economic and racial justice. Those who hold elective office have a special responsibility in that regard, and as Lt. Governor I will continue to hold these values in the work that I do.
If you also believe in these responsibilities, I invite you to join our campaign and donate if you are able to ensure that I am able to fight for all Washingtonians in Olympia.
Finally, it is quite strange to have Pride month without the usual parades and celebrations, and I look forward to joining in on marches again in coming years!
