Texas Republicans have rammed through a new map that gives them five more House seats, just weeks after Texas Democrats took extraordinary action — leaving the state for two weeks — to try and block the Trump-backed scheme.
This is what we’re up against. It’s not just gerrymandering, it’s strategic disenfranchisement.
Earlier this week, progressive champion and Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Greg Casar announced he's officially running for re-election in his newly reconfigured Texas congressional district.
Now that Republicans have gotten away with this in Texas, they are setting a dangerous precedent: that congressional maps are no longer tied to population or fairness — but to unchecked power.
If we don’t fight back now, we risk seeing this movement dismantled one map, one district, one vote at a time.
