John,
As Labor Day approaches, working people – especially care workers – are under attack. The progress we’ve fought for is being torn apart: job protections gutted, families detained, Medicaid slashed, and our basic rights threatened. Meanwhile, the ultra-rich are getting richer, billionaires are chipping away at democracy, and private armies are sent to intimidate our communities.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But now is not the time to sit on the sidelines – it’s time to stand with each other, shoulder to shoulder.
This Labor Day weekend, thousands of care workers and other grassroots activists will gather in cities and towns nationwide. From Texas to Wyoming, from Oregon to Maine, we’re hitting the streets: hosting rallies, sharing our stories, marching to demand a country that puts workers over billionaires.
Attacks on workers across the country are growing by the day. We can’t just stand for a new normal where Congress completely guts Medicaid and SNAP, hands tax breaks to billionaires, and makes it harder for us to organize for better pay and job protections.
As billionaires seize even more control of our democracy, it’s easy to lose hope. But we don’t back down – because together, we are powerful.
On September 1st, NDWA is partnering with May Day Strong to send a message: we will not let billionaires and bad bosses decide our future.
We are coming together to:
When politicians and CEOs try to divide us, we choose unity. When our rights are under attack, we rise together. The fight for dignity in care work is about respect for the labor that holds our families and neighborhoods together. And despite these attacks, this Labor Day we will honor that work and demand our government do the same.
As always, thanks for all you do,
NDWA
Thank you for being a dedicated supporter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance!
We're working day and night to win respect, recognition, and labor rights and protections for the more than 2.5 million nannies, house cleaners, and homecare workers.
The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
