Donald Trump is doing exactly what he promised: turning the Justice
Department into a weapon to try and crush his enemies. It will not
succeed.

His latest target? Democratic donor and philanthropist George Soros and
his son. Trump is demanding they be charged with federal crimes, not
because of evidence, but because they fund organizations that stand up for
democracy and oppose his MAGA agenda. This isn’t law enforcement. This is
vindictive retaliation.

We’ve seen this movie before. Trump’s DOJ has already raided critics,
launched “strike forces” to investigate Barack Obama, targeted Attorney
General Letitia James after she prosecuted him, and opened probes into
Sen. Adam Schiff for leading his impeachment. Now he’s making reckless
claims against philanthropists who have dared to speak out.

This is how authoritarian regimes work: criminalize dissent, punish
critics, and scare everyone else into silence. If Trump can do this to
George Soros and his son, he can do it to anyone – activists, journalists,
or ordinary Americans who oppose him.
