John,
This morning, the Minneapolis community was rocked with a horrific mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. At the time of writing, reports indicate at least two children were killed and 17 others were injured. Authorities have confirmed that the shooter is no longer a threat, but the damage done to this community will last far beyond today.
Our hearts are with the students, educators, families, and first responders affected by this tragedy. But thoughts and prayers do not cut it. No parent should fear for their child’s safety at school and no child should carry the trauma of gunfire - especially in the place where they go to learn and grow.
We will continue to fight for a future where children can go to school without fear. But we can’t do this work alone. We’re asking you to rise up against these horrific acts and invest a little of your time into state-based violence prevention work. The more we educate, elect, and implement - the safer our communities become. That means promoting programs in your community that work to intervene before violent incidences can escalate.
