Dear Community,

As a father, a community leader, and a representative of Saint Paul, my heart is heavy. I am deeply saddened and horrified by the tragic events that unfolded at Annunciation Catholic School in South Minneapolis. No words can fully express the pain that families, children, educators, and our entire community are feeling.

We should never have to worry about our kids’ safety at school—especially not during their very first week back. It is unacceptable, heartbreaking, and infuriating. Every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and protected—in every neighborhood, at every school, every single day.

We mourn with the families. We stand in solidarity with the students and teachers. And we recommit to doing everything in our power to ensure this never happens again.

We will continue to hold space for those affected and stand with our community through grief, healing, and justice.
