The Trump administration is gutting our disaster response system to power its mass deportation machine.

According to new reporting from The Washington Post, more than 100 FEMA employees have been reassigned to ICE — not to respond to floods or fires, but to process new hires for Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda.

FEMA is a critical assistance program. We need more workers in disaster response, not more wrongful deportations.

As someone who represents communities vulnerable to wildfires and climate disasters, I know what happens when FEMA is understaffed. It delays relief. It costs lives.
