Community Justice Responds to Devastating Shooting at Annunciation Catholic School
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 27, 2025
Minneapolis – Community Justice joins the community in profound grief following today’s horrendous shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis during a routine all‑school mass for pre‑kindergarten through eighth‑grade students.
We offer our deepest condolences to all of the children, families, educators, and first responders impacted by this horrific act. We stand alongside Governor Tim Walz, who called it a “horrific act of violence,” and local leaders demanding urgent action to prevent further tragedies.
Community Justice asserts that no child should ever face gun violence while in school. This latest shooting is not an isolated incident—it follows a relentless surge of gun-related violence in Minneapolis, including several shootings within the past 24 hours.
Although details about this morning’s incident are still unknown, we call on elected officials to prioritize:
* Investment in safer school environments , including proven violence prevention programs and mental health resources.
* Community-based interventions , including support for families traumatized by gun violence and local advocacy for systemic change.
“This tragedy is another painful reminder that our current policies are failing to protect families. Lawmakers at every level must act now to keep communities safe by strengthening gun laws and investing in community-led intervention, prevention, and trauma support services. The longer we wait, the more lives are at risk. Enough is enough.” - Adzi Vokhiwa , Vice President of Policy at Community Justice.
Until we achieve a future where children can attend school without fear , our work continues — demanding accountability, policy reform, and the protection of life.
