Celebrate 30 years of the Cowboy Trail
Sept. 5 is the big day: come celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of the nation's largest Rails-to-Trails projects: Nebraska's Cowboy Trail.
Running from Norfolk to Chadron, this scenic trail offers unique adventures - and so does this anniversary celebration. There is still time to register for the bike ride or make plans to join us for the free social on the iconic Cowboy Trail Bridge. (P.S. Late summer fishing advice
Nebraska parks and fishing go together like peanut butter and jelly. And just like everyone has their favorite take on this sandwich, everyone has tips for landing fish in late summer. This week's weather may be cool, but the warm days will return. Check out this advice for heating up your catch on days when the sun is shining down.  Missouri River Expo marks 20 years
Note Sept. 20-21 on your calendars: that's the 20th Missouri River Expo at Ponca State Park. This popular fall event will be bigger than ever, with a whole park full of free outdoor activities to try out. It takes both days to experience it all! Your ticket to this event? A Nebraska State Park Entry permit. See you there!

State park areas play host to a range of events next month. From birding and biodiversity to stargazing and storytelling, there are events in every corner of the state. Nebraska's historical parks get in on the fun too, with mysteries at Arbor Lodge Mansion, military timelines and living history weekends.

 Escape to Lewis and Clark SRA Aug. 29-31
And now for something completely different! Labor Day weekend at Lewis and Clark SRA features all kinds of fun: movies, puzzles, hayrack rides, bottle rockets, tie-dye projects and Dutch-oven cooking. Make the last official weekend of summer an escape from the ordinary!

 Fire up the weekend fun!
Celebrate Labor Day in historical fashion with a trip to Fort Kearny State Historical Park. The weekend will feature three days of living history activities that showcase life on a frontier prairie fort. The highlight of each day will be live cannon firing. Visit with reenactors as you explore the fort's grounds and learn about history.

 Visit Indian Cave State Park for a special day (or make it a whole weekend!)
Fireworks, hayrack rides, a fish fry, yard games and a cake walk are just some of the fun to be had on Aug. 30 at Indian Cave State Park. Spend the day or pitch a tent and make a weekend of it as you enjoy fishing, a campfire and hiking the park's miles and miles of trails.
