Now, more than ever, we need to remember why we are proud to be Americans. Ours is a nation that strives for the highest ideals of liberty and integrity, and we are privileged to live under a Constitution that affirms the inherent dignity and God-given rights of every individual. We are blessed to call America home.
This Independence Day, make your pride for America go viral! Here are 3 ways you can share what makes you a #ProudAmerican:

As we lead up to Independence Day 2020, The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action want to know why you are proud to be an American.
We have launched the #ProudAmerican campaign. Use this hashtag on social media now through July 4 to show why you are proud to live in the greatest nation in the world.
As we look to the last few weeks, it may seem easy to conflate protestors with rioters. Heritage’s Edwin Meese III makes it clear that lawful protest is manifestly American—whereas those who deface statues or destroy property must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Meanwhile, the months of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic have exposed serious vulnerabilities in the way we treat public health threats. Contributing experts weigh in on how to strategize for future pandemics. Lastly, Heritage headquarters is still unable to host public events, but social distancing isn’t stopping us from hosting great events that you can “attend” online. Check out our list of upcoming webinars to find an event that interests you.

Hold Accountable and Punish the Wrongdoers. Orderly protest is part of our American tradition. But rioting, looting, destroying property, and attacking fellow Americans have no place in orderly protest. They are, in fact, the very antithesis of orderly protest. These illegal actions not only undermine the moral standing of legitimate protests, but they also wind up hurting most of the very people that true protesters aim to help, according to Edwin Meese III, Heritage’s Ronald Reagan distinguished fellow emeritus. Meese, who has spent over 50 years in active law enforcement, explains in his latest commentary the grievous effects of violence. “To bring about change in society, we must identify wrong policies and wrong actions where they exist. We must also hold accountable and punish wrongdoers. But we should not resort to lawlessness or stigmatize courageous, lawfully acting police officers,” Meese writes. Read Meese’s full commentary to find out why we must confront mob violence.
The response to the COVID-19 pandemic exposed significant problems with America’s approach to providing medical care during a public health crisis. The initial approach worked in stemming the rate of infection across the country, but it incurred massive, unnecessary costs to medical care providers and required great sacrifices from the public. A different strategy is needed, urgently, so that this avoidable situation does not repeat itself. According to two medical professionals, Amy Anderson and Dr. Daniel Johnson Jr., such a strategy should include:
- Designating pandemic hospitals and facilities to care for pandemic patients;
- Ensuring that medical treatment and medical-workforce training can continue uninterrupted during pandemics;
- and Reconfiguring health system funding during a public health emergency to facilitate these goals.

HERITAGE PODCASTS
On the latest “ SCOTUS 101” episode, Heritage legal experts GianCarlo Canaparo and Amy Swearer unpack the two new opinions released that uphold the SEC's practice of seeking disgorgement of ill-gotten gains and uphold expedited removal of illegal aliens. Canaparo then interviews Judge Sandra Ikuta of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. She speaks about her career, her mentors, and her clerkship with Judge Sanda Day O'Connor. These will make you feel better ...
“On Friday, President Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to fill job vacancies based on merit, rather than require a minimum level of education for candidates seeking open positions,” Preston Cooper reports for Forbes.
“Credential inflation shuts out experienced, qualified job candidates who are perfectly capable of filling certain roles simply because they lack the right piece of paper . . . Most perniciously, it convinces young job seekers that they need a bachelor’s degree or even a graduate degree to succeed.”

Washington Examiner: 'The Kagan Court': Anti-abortion leaders rip Roberts for ruling against Louisiana restrictions.
The decision, a major win for abortion providers, was made possible by Chief Justice John Roberts joining the liberal wing of the court in his opinion. Robert's flip, which came only two weeks after he joined the liberal justices in the landmark transgender rights case Bostock v. Clayton County, enraged social conservatives.
