Earlier this year, PPI launched New Directions for Democrats, a series of strategic dialogues with rising political leaders outside of Washington about repairing the party’s damaged brand and winning back working Americans. As featured in POLITICO Magazine ([link removed]) , nearly 100 party reformers, policy thinkers, and grassroots organizers gathered with us in Denver to discuss reviving the Democratic Party’s competitiveness in every part of the country.
Now, we’re taking this conversation to Las Vegas, Nevada – one of America’s great working-class cities. We’re once again bringing together a group of reform-minded leaders who understand the need to challenge the status quo in Washington and chart a new course for party renewal and success.
Las Vegas is the perfect location for this next convening. From hotel housekeepers to stagehands, from restaurant servers to rideshare drivers, the city thrives on grit and ambition. It’s a place where pragmatic Democrats are connecting with working people and winning back the voters we need to build a durable majority.
We’ll begin the weekend with a welcome reception and dinner program on Friday evening, September 12, from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. The evening will open with drinks and networking, and will feature opening remarks from Nevada elected officials. We will then hear from Ambassador Rahm Emanuel in a fireside chat with PPI President Will Marshall. A Q&A with attendees will follow the discussion, and then we’ll move into a seated dinner.
Then, on Saturday, September 13, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, we’ll gather for a full-day retreat. Our day will begin with opening remarks and a polling presentation to define the political challenge Democrats are currently facing. It will be followed by structured discussions led by a slate of high-level elected officials, strategists, and policy experts. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all attendees. Topics will include: economy and cost of living, workforce development, education, climate and energy, and cultural issues.
Confirmed and expected participants include:
* Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones
* U.S. Congresswoman Susie Lee
* U.S. Congressman Steven Horsford
* U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton
* U.S. Congressman George Whitesides
* U.S. Congressman Greg Landsman
