Dear John,

These are challenging times. As individuals, families, and a community, our goals are simple: to be safe, build a life, and support our community here and across the globe.

On August 15, 2025, MPAC co-convened a one-day gathering—alongside Muslim Civic Coalition (MCC), American Muslim Health Professionals (AMHP), Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU), and Emgage—as part of our Community Collaborative Initiative (CCI). Hosted at MPAC’s Washington, D.C. office, the convening brought together diverse American Muslim national and statewide civic and civil rights organizations, building on research and collaboration that has been underway since 2020.

We came together to tackle two urgent challenges:
* The escalating attacks on nonprofit organizations, including those serving our community.
* The erosion of our First Amendment rights, especially on college campuses and in workplaces.

This convening was not just about naming the challenges—we focused on solutions:
* Mapping the landscape of our collective expertise and work.
* Strengthening nonprofit organizations against external threats.
* Protecting First Amendment rights, ensuring students and families are defended.

Over 40 organizations were invited to participate, with 23 attending—all committed to advancing these goals. The convening was facilitated by Pathfinder Policy Strategies LLC and created space for reflection, collaboration, and trust-building.

The results were powerful:
1. We completed a landscape mapping of all organizations in attendance, with information on mission, scope, leadership, and capacity for collaboration on the focus areas above.
2. We made a commitment to attend the next convening in December.
3. Each participant committed to collaborate with at least one other group that attended the convening.

This is just the beginning. We invite you to stay engaged with this initiative, connect us with organizations that should be at the table, and continue supporting the work that protects our rights and strengthens our community.

With gratitude,

Haris Tarin
