Dear John,
Driving serious-minded social reform is a complex, expensive, time-consuming task. That’s especially true for the work of the Center for a Humane Economy as it tries to transform animal agriculture, drug development (animal testing), wildlife management, fashion, and other major economic enterprises with animal use long at the center of them.
Transforming how animals are treated requires reshaping the very structures that drive our economy—changing business incentives, research and development, supply chains, and the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern commerce. Our theory of change is that it’s just good business to treat animals well, and it’s a risk to business to be involved in animal exploitation.
* Supporting the use of new, cruelty-free methods to screen new drugs in the pharmaceutical industry.
* Hastening the transition away from extreme confinement systems in agriculture, dismantling gestation crates and battery cages in favor of more extensive systems.
* Persuading manufacturers of athletic footwear to stop sourcing kangaroo skins for their products.
And that’s just a small taste of the reforms we aim to achieve.
We’re no fly-by-night operation at the Center for a Humane Economy. But if we are to take on these immense tasks, we have to plan for the future and finance an operation that can compete with major business interests. One way to help ensure that operational health is to cultivate a class of supporters who leave money to the organization in their estate planning.
August is National Make-A-Will Month , and we’re reminding you to take action and create your will with our partner, FreeWill. FreeWill [[link removed]] is a free, online platform that offers a will-writing tool and a beneficiary organizer [[link removed]] so you can make sure all of your plans are in place.

We’re so grateful you’re part of our community. Now, take advantage of this moment to begin your legacy. And if you've already included the Center in your estate plans, please let us know [[link removed]] so we can express our gratitude.
