** Get ready for Labor Day
------------------------------------------------------------
Please join us at a series of actions this Monday, September 1, Labor Day.
To be clear, we are not leading planning on either event as we had to withdraw from planning due to time constraints. However, we are confident both events will be safe and inspiring. We will send out event and safety information the day before as usual.
9:30 AM at 450 Golden Gate: Federal Employees Labor Day Rally ([link removed]) with National Active & Retired Federal Employees, National Treasury Employees Union, American Postal Workers Union, and the American Federation of Government employees. We will be tabling and helping with organization for this event. If you’d like to help as an event marshal, please fill out this form ([link removed]) .
11 AM at 16th & Mission: Labor Day Rally And March ([link removed]) with SF Labor Council, Service Employees International Union, United Educators of San Francisco and more. This event gathers at the 16th & Mission BART station and marches to Dolores Park. This march urgently needs volunteers: sign up via their form ([link removed]) .
Bookmark our Labor Day 2025 ([link removed]) page and check back for more events and more details. And share it with like-minded people you know who are itching to get back in the streets.

Interested in doing your own protest? We have a training for you this Saturday.
------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday, August 30: How to Organize and Run Your Own Protest Training, 3-5 PM at 518 Valencia St. We want more people doing more protests—and we want to share our knowledge of how to put on the safest, most effective protests you can. Space is limited, so reserve a ticket on Eventbrite ([link removed]) for this free event.

Yes on Prop 50. Redistricting will preserve YOUR representation
------------------------------------------------------------
Republican-led states like Texas are redistricting to try and guarantee a Republican House majority in 2026. Independently-districted states, like California, are now trying to temporarily create districts favoring Democrats to attempt to fight back. Prop 50 will allow this to be done in California.
Red-state redistricting is designed to take representation away from YOU. Blue-state redistricting is a way to balance the scales and preserve the representation that you, as an American Citizen, have a right to.
If passed, Prop 50 instates Amendment 8 ([link removed]) to the California Constitution, which itself institutes redrawn maps outlined in AB 604 ([link removed]) , until 2030, when they would be returned to independent districting.
You may have already received glossy flyers asking you to vote NO. These are paid for by right-wing interests who want to preserve a Republican majority in the House. This is going to be a turnout election, and we must vote and get out the vote for YES on Prop 50.
GOTV opportunities are on their way. In the meantime, get informed on our website ([link removed]) and check your voter registration. ([link removed])

Housing for Samara! Demand Mayor Lurie allow a homeless child to qualify for housing assistance
------------------------------------------------------------
Samara is a 7‑year‑old San Franciscan with serious medical needs who has spent the past two years living in shelters with her family. After undergoing multiple surgeries this month, she is preparing to leave the hospital—but the City has told her parents they don’t qualify for housing assistance because, according to a computer system, they are “not homeless enough.”
This is outrageous. Every child deserves a safe, stable home—especially the 3,000 homeless children in our city who, like Samara, are being denied dignity by a broken housing system.
Samara’s mother, Maria Zavala, a leader with Faith in Action Bay Area, has already helped win critical victories: ending experimental shelter evictions and securing $30 million for family homelessness. But Maria is still being told there is no solution for Samara.
Please call Mayor Lurie to express your support for Samara and all unhoused children who deserve a safe space to live. Call script here. ([link removed])
** Citizen Sponsor Needed: Support an Immigrant, Save a Life
------------------------------------------------------------
We’ve received an urgent request from our community—a local immigrant needs a U.S. citizen to step up as a financial sponsor, or they risk deportation or detention.
Being a sponsor means helping someone stay in the U.S. by showing they won’t need government financial support. What’s needed from a sponsor:
* Three years of tax returns showing you earn over $29,000
* A letter verifying your employment
* Proof that you’re a U.S. citizen or resident (like a photo of your passport or Social Security card)
If this sounds like something you or someone you know could help with—even if you’re just curious and want to learn more—please reach out to us at
[email protected]. We’ll connect you with the community group leading this effort.
More info about sponsorship is available at the official USCIS website: [link removed]
Even sharing this request with your network could make a difference. Thank you for being a part of this community. This info is also on our website. ([link removed])

** Thank SFUSD For Protecting Our Families
------------------------------------------------------------
In a recent Mission Local article, Superintendent Maria Su was quoted as saying, “I want to be crystal clear: San Francisco public schools remain committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students and their families, regardless of immigration status.” The article goes on to report that several teachers have taken it upon themselves to offer workshops to concerned families and offer Know Your Rights education to anyone interested. Given the abduction of immigrants and citizens of color, including children, in the state of California, these brave acts by teachers and leaders at SFUSD should be supported and applauded.
Contact Maria Su and tell her thank you for protecting our students from ICE. Call script here. ([link removed])
** Support a Courageous Judge who shut down Alligator Alcatraz
------------------------------------------------------------
Judge Kathleen M. Williams of the Federal District Court in Miami ruled to have Alligator Alcatraz, the infamously inhumane detention facility in Florida, be shut down. She used the grounds that federal and state governments did not conduct environmental reviews before building Alligator Alcatraz, and that was illegal.
In a time when judges are more often bending the knee to the Trump Regime, Judge Williams is bravely standing up for what’s right. She is facing intimidation from DeSantis, as well as Florida’s attorney general. Judges at this time are often in physical danger, and many have been threatened.
Our Judiciary team has been working to send postcards to judges, encouraging them to halt the Trump regime’s atrocities in the courtroom, and this is one such opportunity.
Write a postcard to Judge Kathleen M. Williams thanking her for shutting down Alligator Alcatraz. Sample script and instructions here. ([link removed])
In addition to legislative, policy, financial, and law-enforcement attacks on our democracy, the MAGA Regime is engaged in a systematic campaign to gut or eliminate environmental, health, safety, labor, anti-discrimination, and other hard-won regulations and policies.
** Public Comment: Reconsideration of 2009 Endangerment Finding and Greenhouse Gas Vehicle Standards
------------------------------------------------------------
Their proposed Reconsideration of 2009 Endangerment Finding and Greenhouse Gas Vehicle Standards would revoke the EPA’s official finding that greenhouse gases pose a threat to public health and are therefore subject to regulation under the Clean Air Act. The finding came in 2009 after a decade of litigation by states to force the federal government to regulate vehicle emissions. EPA’s subsequent rules to limit climate warming emissions rest on this decision. This rule change is part of a campaign to prop up the fossil fuel industry at the cost of a livable climate.
You can submit a comment here ([link removed]) .
The MAGA Regime is driven by ideology and greed, so we have no expectation that our comments will sway them. But there are two reasons for us to say, "No, we oppose:"
* Throughout history, "Silence Equals Assent." We do NOT consent, and we have to stand up and say so.
* When a large number of voters register opposition to a regulatory change, we can use that to encourage our Members of Congress (MoC) to block the new rule by passing a Congressional Review Act resolution.
Leave a public comment to this attack against "We the People." Instructions here. ([link removed])

Preserve Free Tax filing: Do the IRS Direct File Survey
------------------------------------------------------------
In 2024 the IRS launched a program, called Direct File, to pilot free e-filing of tax returns for some taxpayers. Consumer finance champion Senator Elizabeth Warren noted that Direct File was one way to limit junk fees and prevent large tax-prep companies from monetizing personal information. Now, the recent One Big budget bill includes funding to “replace any direct e-file programs run by the Internal Revenue Service” and directs the IRS to report to Congress on “issues related to free tax filing options for the public”.
In response, the IRS is now collecting survey responses ([link removed]) to inform their report. It takes only a few minutes to fill out the survey form to show your support for government-provided free tax filing. Read more on our website. ([link removed])
** The Rhetoric Game: How to use rhetoric to change minds and win power
------------------------------------------------------------
We want people to have homes, clean air, food on their plate, and more. The government pools society’s resources and expends those resources to provide services and security that allow us to have those things. To make that happen, we need good, honest people in power who can deliver on the promises of a stable, democratic government.
To ensure those good, honest people are in power, we need to convince others that the things we want are good for them and their family, and that the people who want to do those things are the people who should have power. That’s rhetoric.
The media accountability group is embarking on a new series of blog posts exploring how you can use rhetoric to change minds and win power so we can start making the changes our country increasingly-desperately needs.
