August 27, 2025
As a former student, a former professor, and as a parent, the fall has always meant starting over for me. In one sense, despite what the calendar says, it’s the start of a new year. It’s a time to gather supplies, start fresh, and take stock. So, while NPQ is on our annual summer break, when we will be away from our desks until September 3, I’m taking this time to reflect and share some of my favorite articles from 2025 so far. Here, we’re charting progress, however small, and thinking about ways to regroup, restore strength, and keep moving forward.
This issue has:
* Actionable Tips ([link removed]) —Specific steps to filing a temporary restraining order against the Trump administration, and what legal help nonprofits can receive.
* A Case Study ([link removed]) —An article on how, after threatened program termination, AmeriCorps was saved, but not all is well.
* Voices from the Movement ([link removed]) —Activists and leaders in the LGBTQ+ movement share strategies for pushing back against the targeted attacks on the trans community.
* My Full List of Picks ([link removed]) —Read my complete list of 2025 selections.
How can we as a nation reassess, renew ourselves, and stay ready?
