VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump's officials debase themselves in three-hour humiliation ritual

Our country's descent into a grim caricature of authoritarian strongman rule so outrageous that even the North Koreans would be offended continued apace on Tuesday with a three-hour long White House Cabinet circle jerk, wherein every official took turns fawning over Donald Trump, praising him and touting his fantastical accomplishments. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy declared, "Mr. President, it is pretty great to celebrate Labor Day with a builder who loves labor, who loves the men and women who built this country, the people who sweat" (Trump has never labored a day in his life). Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff weepily wished that "the Nobel committee finally gets its act together and realizes you are the single finest candidate since this Nobel award was ever talked about, to receive that award." Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent gushed, "You have brought us back from the edge. You are restoring confidence in government." Roadkill butcher RFK Jr. lauded Trump for "saving the whales" by ending windmills, which he claimed have killed 160 whales over the past two years (???). Sec. of Commerce Howard Lutnick crowned Donald the "crypto president" and vowed to put GDP statistics on the blockchain (which would literally do nothing). Sec. of Agriculture Brooke Rollins breathlessly thanked the MAGA cult leader for "saving college football" (??????). Marco Rubio claimed the meeting was the "most important labor day of his life." Seriously, we are just a few weeks away from the secretary of State publicly thanking Trump for allowing the Sun to rise. Just a repulsive and utterly demeaning show of bowing and scraping from a group of shameless sycophants willing to do anything to get their share of the pie while helping Lord Goldemort burn the bakery down to the ground around them.

Take Action: Don't put Trump on Mt. Rushmore!

Democrats flip key seat in Iowa district that Trump won by double digits
In what hopefully is a sign of better things to come in 2026, Democrats broke the GOP's supermajority in the Iowa state Senate with Catelin Drey's decisive victory in the special election for Iowa's 1st district. DNC Chair Ken Martin said that the party had deployed 30,000 volunteers to help get out the vote, leading to a 55%-45% victory for Drey and the flip of the district for the first time in more than 15 years. These kinds of victories are exactly why Republicans are desperately trying to rewrite the maps and eke out a few extra seats — the blowback to Trump's unspeakable cruelty and nihilistic destruction is coming, and they're justifiably terrified.

Take Action: Demand Louisiana Republicans stop gerrymandering!

Powerhouse Democrat puts key GOP seat in MAJOR jeopardy

Bob Brooks for Congress: Bob Brooks is not your usual politician, the kind who went straight from fancy college to the state House to Congress…like Ryan Mackenzie, the Republican he’s challenging in Pennsylvania’s 7th district. Bob Brooks has done just about everything: firefighter, union president, landscaper, dishwasher, truck driver, you name it. Just the kind of guy who knows what working people go through, what they need, and how to make their lives better, and he’s got the track record to prove it. He’s earned a reputation for being an unshakeable advocate for working families. That’s why he has the endorsement of PA’s Lieutenant Governor, Austin Davis, Sen. Bernie Sanders, the IAFF, SEIU, Rep. Chris Deluzio, and over 25 state senators and representatives. Pennsylvania knows and loves this man. The same can’t be said for his opponent, Ryan Mackenzie, who tried to help Donald Trump steal the 2020 election and voted for the Big Awful Bill that is likely going to kick as many as 300,000 Pennsylvanians off of Medicaid and could blow an $800 million hole in food aid. A first-term Congressman, Mackenzie won his election by just 1%. This is an extremely flippable seat in one of the most important swing states in the country, and we have not only a candidate who can win, but one with the vision and the drive to fight for a better future after the votes are counted. Will you chip in to help jump-start Bob Brooks’ campaign for Pennsylvania’s 7th district?

Senate Republicans break with Trump, lament his attack on one of their most "beloved" colleagues
Holy shit, people. It's finally happened! After more than a decade of trampling on democratic norms, fascistic attacks on bedrock institutions and fundamental principles of our teetering republic, and a literal assault on their actual place of work, Senate Republicans have apparently had enough of their cult leader treading all over them. Donald finally crossed a red line they just can't abide. His transgression? Criticizing 91-year-old Chuck Grassley for not throwing out a longstanding tradition granting home-state senators the right to effectively veto certain judicial nominees. Seriously. Louisiana Republican and part-time Foghorn Leghorn impersonator John Kennedy said, "With respect, Mr. President, pretty please, with sugar on top, back off this, because I don't think the Senate’s going to go along, and I think it’s just a needless fight." And for those wondering: yes, this actually constitutes standing up to Lord Goldemort in today's feckless, criminally impotent GOP.

Take Action: Tell Costco: Don't cave to extremists and keep stocking abortion pills!

Jeanine Pirro’s office fails three times to convince grand jurors to return indictment against woman who "pushed FBI agent's hand against the wall"
In a deeply welcomed show of resistance to the Trump regime's fascistic crackdowns, THREE grand juries in Washington, DC, all refused to indict Sidney Reid for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer. The "assault" in question? Reid is accused of having "forcefully pushed” an FBI agent’s hand against a cement wall and "caused lacerations" during an immigration enforcement protest. The idea that this woman assaulted anyone while she was being manhandled by the cops is preposterous, and hopefully this sets a strong precedent for the undoubtedly many more cases to come. In a potent reminder for this case and others, Reid's lawyers said Pirro "can try to concoct crimes to quiet the people, but in our criminal justice system, the citizens have the last word."

DNC punts on dueling Israel resolutions as Chair Ken Martin calls for bridging the divide

A day after Israel killed five journalists in a double hospital airstrike, the Democratic National Committee rejected a resolution that would have called for a military arms embargo and suspension of military aid to Israel and then withdrew a successful resolution sponsored by DNC Chair Ken Martin himself that called for “unrestricted” aid to Gaza and a two-state solution. "There’s a divide in our party on this issue," Martin said, when announcing he’d pulled his resolution. "This is a moment that calls for shared dialogue, calls for shared advocacy." Recent polling that shows just 8% of Democratic voters approve of Israel's military actions in Gaza would indicate that this "divide" is between the vast majority of people calling for what's right and a few politicians taking financial contributions and marching orders from an increasingly right-wing American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Take Action: End the Gaza famine and stop US military aid to Israel now!

NAACP sues Texas over congressional redistricting, saying it strips Black voters of political power
Stripping Black and Brown voters of political power in Texas was precisely the point. Donnie told Texas Republicans he needed five more seats and they tripped over themselves to deliver. But hey, what's a little more racial gerrymandering in a state with a very long track record of blatant disenfrachisement?

Greenwashing PR firm for Big Oil hired for crucial global climate conference

Conservation Law Foundation: This summer’s sky-high temperature records, wildfires, and floods have made it terrifyingly clear that the climate crisis is accelerating and we need to take action, NOW. But at the upcoming COP30, the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference hosted by Brazil, PR firm Edelman, which helps Big Oil greenwash its reputation, has been hired as Brazil’s media consultant. Nothing even remotely related to Big Oil should be ANYWHERE near the climate crisis – especially a conference meant to stop climate change. We need to make our voices heard in protest. Will you add your name to demand Brazil and COP30 drop Edelman ASAP?

Whistleblower claims DOGE compromised Social Security data of hundreds of millions of Americans
Wait, so you're telling us Elon's lil' army of unvetted DOGE cretins weren't doing due diligence, following security protocols, and implementing appropriate safety measures to protect sensitive data while hacking their way through vast government databases to root out phantom fraud? Who could've possibly seen all of this definitely coming?

Denmark summons US envoy after report of Americans carrying out influence operations in Greenland
Welp, Donald is definitely still on his gimme gimme Greenland bullshit. Denmark’s foreign minister summoned the top US diplomat in the country for a proper dressing down after credible reports that at least three people with connections to the MAGA cult leader have been carrying out not terribly covert influence operations in the definitely-not-for-sale territory.

GOP congressman warns rowdy town hall attendees about the return of "the Ottoman Empire"
During a chaotic town hall yesterday in Pryor, Oklahoma, Republican congressman and apparent amateur history buff Josh Brecheen warned his constituents about the possible resurrection of...the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of Sharia Law...in America. Ooookay. Brecheen's prophetic musings were met with understandable derision, and also now we can't get this earworm out of our damn heads. THANKS, JOSH. Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks!
