Hey Friend,

Right now, more than 30 million Americans are under dangerous heat alerts in the West. Wildfires are forcing evacuations in Northern California. Along the East Coast, Hurricane Erin churned offshore with the power of a Category 5 storm. And Tropical Storm Fernand is tracking through the same waters, reminding us that hurricane season is only just beginning.

These unnatural disasters and extreme weather events are becoming worse due to the climate crisis. Climate change is no longer a distant threat. It is here now. It is personal. And it is affecting every single one of us. Wherever you are, I'm sure you've heard stories like these happening near where you live:

-
Families are losing homes to flooding and fire,
-
Communities are baking under unrelenting heat,
-
Air is choked with wildfire smoke,
-
Farmers are struggling as crops fail, and
-
Insurance companies are pulling out, leaving people unprotected.

Each summer is hotter than the last. Fire season is longer and more destructive. Entire ecosystems are collapsing under the stress of a rapidly changing climate. Globally, 5 million lives are cut short every year because of extreme weather fueled by climate change. This is not happening to someone else. It is happening to all of us.

How You Can Build Resilience Against Extreme Weather

The Sierra Club is fighting for a livable future by shutting down dirty energy, accelerating the shift to clean power, pushing Wall Street to invest in renewables, mobilizing grassroots power nationwide, holding corporations and regulators accountable, lobbying Congress, and challenging the Trump administration in the courts. This work saves lives, builds resilience, and helps communities prepare for extreme weather.

The climate crisis is personal, local, and global and it is happening right now. Extreme storms, wildfires, and floods are hitting communities across the country.

Government Setbacks Make the Crisis Worse

Instead of meeting this crisis with urgency, the current administration is actively working against climate solutions.

Just recently, they have proposed dismantling FEMA, leaving disaster-prone communities without critical recovery support. And the EPA just moved to roll back the Endangerment Finding, the very scientific and legal foundation that allows the federal government to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

These reckless decisions put lives at risk and threaten decades of progress. We cannot let them succeed.

You Still Have Time To Act

The choices we all make today will determine whether our children inherit a thriving, livable planet or one defined by crisis. The Sierra Club has the knowledge, the skills, and the influence to combat the climate crisis. And by making one gift today, you can be a part of the fight for our future.
