![]() John, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is openly defying ethics rules.
Bessent’s failure to fully comply with ethics obligations is part of a larger pattern within the Trump administration. In fact, the president himself has broken with the precedent upheld by every other American president and failed to divest from his businesses. Trump’s financial entanglements raise serious ethics and corruption concerns, even beyond his continued profits from his businesses. Most recently, Trump came under fire after his latest financial disclosure showed that he owns more than $600,000 in shares of Nvidia and Apple—both of which have financially benefited from special concessions he made to the companies during his time in office. Earlier this month, Trump announced that he was allowing Nvidia to resume sales of artificial intelligence chips to China in exchange for a 15% cut of resulting revenue for the US government. This deal is unprecedented, and potentially unconstitutional. Trump also stated that Apple was exempted from 100% semiconductor tariffs, citing its domestic investment commitments at a meeting in which Apple CEO Tim Cook gave him a plaque with a 24-karat gold base. The president is literally profiting off the policies he sets. This is corruption in its rawest form. This is why CREW is working to shine a light on Trump and his entire administration’s unprecedented corruption and its failure to comply with ethics rules.
