This week, kids across Los Angeles put on their backpacks and headed back to school. But for too many families, the first day was clouded by fear.

Instead of feeling the joy and excitement of the new school year, some parents missed drop-off because of the Trump administration’s constant immigration raids. Our schools should be places of learning — they shouldn’t be shadowed by chaos and intimidation.

Federal courts have already ruled Trump’s raids unconstitutional twice, but the White House is doubling down, targeting Angelenos and sowing fear in our communities.

Let me be clear: We will never accept this as the new normal. The targeting of families in Los Angeles is not only unconstitutional, it is un-American, and we won’t stand for it.
