As we acknowledge Women’s Equality Day, opponents of women’s rights are showing that there is no limit to how far they’ll go to block us from making our own decisions about our lives, bodies, and futures.
Some anti-women extremists want to repeal the 19th Amendment, so women no longer have any say in elections. Radical lawmakers in state legislatures are passing more restrictions on reproductive health care, including abortion, while also criminalizing miscarriages. And the Trump administration and its cronies in Congress are cutting social safety net programs that have saved millions of women and families from severe poverty.
For nearly 60 years, NOW has stood strong in fighting back against the agenda to make women second-class citizens. Our history is filled with trailblazing wins achieved by our foremothers that moved equality forward, even when the culture of the time said those victories were impossible.
Together, we must follow in their footsteps and remain the national feminist engine our community was created to be—action-focused, fearless, and strategic. We have to be nimble and ready to reimagine what’s possible as we confront the opponents of today.
And with your generosity, NOW will have the resources needed to not only push back on threats to women’s rights but also expand our grassroots actions to:
Secure constitutional equality so that women have explicit protections in our Constitution;
Champion reproductive rights, including access to abortion;
Advocate for policies that will end violence against women because we deserve to live in safety; and
Call for economic justice to make our economy work for all people
The fight won’t be easy, but progress is possible as long as we’re all in it.
