PFAS chemicals can infiltrate water, soil and even our bodies.1,2,3 They don't break down, and they're linked to serious health problems -- including some types of cancer.4

So why would we allow this stuff in our drinking water?

Toxic chemicals don't belong in the water we drink. It's common sense.

PFAS stands for "per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances," a class of thousands of chemicals also called "forever chemicals" because they don't naturally degrade.

These substances are used by manufacturers to make things waterproof or non-stick. But since PFAS chemicals don't break down, they eventually make their way from their original products into our environment.

And once they're out in the world, they accumulate fast. PFAS have been detected in drinking water in all 50 states.6

Clean water is vital to ecosystems, to our health and our quality of life. Chemicals that end up in our drinking water also end up making their way into us. Nearly every American has PFAS in their blood.7

Setting low limits on at least some widely-used PFAS in drinking water is vital to protect our environment and our health. Support the PFAS National Drinking Water Standard Act today.

Environment Colorado and our national network are working hard to protect our environment and our health from toxic PFAS. Together, we've sent tens of thousands of messages to the Environmental Protection Agency calling for an end to the use of PFAS-contaminated sewage sludge on farm fields.

We're still campaigning to phase out the use of PFAS and keep this stuff out of our environment in the first place. But with so much PFAS pollution that has already happened, we also need to protect our drinking water right now.
