The impact will be felt for decades

“Every day we wake up with hope that maybe tomorrow there will be a solution. That things will get better,” Inas, a mother of three, shared with us from her tent in Gaza.

“But sadly, things are only getting worse.”

Just a few days ago, the hunger that has been haunting Inas and her family for months became even more real when famine was officially declared in Gaza.

“My children and I are suffering from food shortages, especially my newborn. Sometimes I give my share of the food to my children, so they won’t feel hungry, but it affects both my health and that of my baby. I often feel like I’m going to faint."

New mothers and newborns like Inas and her baby are among the most vulnerable as famine tightens its grip on Gaza. Will you rush an emergency gift to deliver lifesaving care to pregnant women, new mothers, and babies in Gaza and beyond?

Right now, 40% of pregnant women in Gaza are severely malnourished, and our teams are seeing the devastating consequences daily: 300% increase in miscarriage. Women 3X more likely to die during childbirth. 1 in 5 babies born needing advanced medical care. Newborns starving to death within days of birth.

Perhaps most shockingly, in the next year, 55,000 pregnant women in Gaza are likely to starve to death. This represents a three-fold increase from earlier estimates.

Right now, women and girls in Gaza urgently need your support to survive. Pregnant women, new mothers, and newborns are hungry and hanging on by a thread. The children who survive will be marked by lasting scars of stunting, developmental delays, weakened immunity, and the heightened risk of chronic diseases in adulthood.

Simply put, the aftermath of this famine will last for decades.

Your gift today can make a profound difference. Please, will you make a gift before it’s too late? Your support will deliver lifesaving sexual and reproductive healthcare in Gaza, the West Bank, and wherever women and girls need support most.

The nightmare in Gaza has been made even worse by the repeated attacks on healthcare workers and medical centers.

In fact, just yesterday, airstrikes hit Nasser Hospital, which is where urogynecologist, surgeon, and USA for UNFPA Leadership Council Member Ambereen Sleemi was stationed for three weeks this summer.

Still, UNFPA teams are doing everything possible: Supporting midwives, deploying mobile maternity units, and delivering medicines, emergency birth kits, and Dignity Kits. However, these efforts have been hindered by persistent, deliberate obstruction, by relentless attacks on health facilities, and by ongoing attacks on civilians, including humanitarians and health workers.

Please, will you make a lifesaving gift today?

We condemn the violence in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel, and hope for a sustained humanitarian ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas, and an end to the violence. The suffering must end and peace must prevail.

Thank you for being there.
