PFAW Member,

Right-wing justices in the Supreme Court – including Trump’s nominees
Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch – just voted to uphold a Louisiana law to
severely limit abortion access, especially for low-income women, despite a
very recent Supreme Court decision striking down an identical law out of
Texas!

Thankfully, Chief Justice Roberts sided with the Court’s moderates in THIS
CASE – even though he had dissented in the Texas case – out of respect for
precedent. But this 5-4 decision highlights:

* The danger of having FOUR Supreme Court justices who blatantly reject
stare decisis – the legal concept that the Court is bound by precedent
(especially recent precedent) in previous decisions…

* The danger of having Roberts as the Court’s new “swing vote” –
Roberts’s leanings are definitively far-right and, more often than
not, he comes down on the wrong side of 5-4 decisions (see Citizens
United, which opened the floodgates for unlimited money in politics,
and the Shelby County ruling, which gutted the VRA, among many other
examples)…

* The danger of potentially adding one or more precedent-disrespecting
right-wing justices to the Supreme Court and the dire need to prevent
Trump and McConnell from doing it!!!

One thing PFAW is doing to make a major impact in this year’s elections is
fighting to mobilize progressives and other voters around the courts with
our Vote the Courts campaign.

And we’re working tirelessly in key target states to unseat the Republican
senators who have been rubber stamps for Trump’s unprecedentedly unfit
judicial nominees, and flip control of the U.S. Senate with our Take Back
the Senate Fund.

Right now, we’re $42,805 short of our end-of-quarter goal to carry on this
work at our current pace. And carry on we must, because the most recent
polling in our key races that show our campaigns are having a significant
impact against Trump Republicans!

That’s a lot of money to raise in just the next 24 hours, but I know that
you and other PFAW members get what’s at stake and I am confident we can
do it.
