Brand-new walking and cycling bridge arrives back in Nottingham to be built
bridge
Over the last week, sections of Nottingham's brand new walking and cycling bridge have been arriving back in the city under police escort 🚓
They'd been on a trip to a specialist paint yard to be transformed into a new off-white colour - before arriving to the riverside ready to be assembled and thoroughly checked.
The bridge will be take shape along the Trent before being lifted into place by a giant crane during November. Exciting!
Our new bridge is made possible through Government funding via the Transforming Cities Fund.

Final Maid Marian Way project resurfacing 26-28 August on Mount Street
mmw
Latest pictures from our transformation of Maid Marian Way - surfacing and lining is done on our new T-junction, including on the new cycling routes.
Our teams return 26-28 August overnight 10pm - 6am to finish resurfacing works on Mount Street after being delayed by the Severn Trent Water closure to Upper Parliament Street.
Then, the highways portion of this project will be complete in the next few weeks, before we return over winter to plant new trees and large shrubs that will have the best chance to thrive if planted in cooler months, as well as the installation of a brand new public artwork this winter.

Zero tolerance on blue badge misuse in Nottingham
blue badge
Did you know that Nottingam City Council has Civil Enforcement Officers out and about in the city daily, carrying out checks and making sure that blue badges are being used correctly?
Drivers WILL face prosecution if they use blue badges belonging to deceased relatives.
Our enforcement officers have already caught over 70 people this year.
Using a cancelled badge is a serious offence and drivers caught face a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), potential vehicle removal and legal action. Recent prosecutions have resulted in fines exceeding £1,000.
In one case from March 2025, a Ford Fiesta was found displaying a badge cancelled in October 2023 after the death of an 80-year-old Nottingham resident. The driver, the deceased’s son, admitted knowingly using the badge and described his actions as “selfish and stupid”. He was fined £1,015.

Let's get back to school safely
school
*As we go into the new school term, let's keep kids safe. *
Recently all schools in the city had their zigzag no parking lines repainted, as well as hundreds of other schools getting safety improvements [ [link removed] ]including signage, flashing amber warning lights, crossings and 20mph zones.
These improvements are aimed at doing everything we can to keep children safe around their schools - but parents and other road users have a big part to play as well.
* If it's possible for you, *the best way of getting to school is walking, cycling or scooting* - less cars on the roads around schools less busy and a safer place to be for everyone.
* If you can't avoid driving to school,* always drive carefully and park considerately* away from zigzag lines
* *Always turn your engine off* when you’re stopped to avoid exposing children to harmful air pollution. The people inside the car breathe in the most and it causes real damage to your entire body, but especially in children's developing bodies
* When you can, *park further from school and walk* a few minutes to keep the streets around the school safer
