Friend,
Coronavirus infections are spiking once again, and it's all the more
devastating because it was all so unnecessary.
States like Texas, Arizona, and Florida ignored the science, shutting
down too late and reopening too early, essentially pouring gasoline on a
raging fire. Worldwide, more than 500,000 people are dead from the
virus, and the rate of infection is accelerating.
It's so upsetting and awful that it's hard not to want to just try to
tune it all out. But there's too much at stake. Too many lives have
already been lost, and we know we have not seen the worst of the
economic devastation.
We've persevered by recommitting ourselves to our core principles:
providing unflinching, independent news on the issues that matter while
giving readers the information they need to be a participant in
democracy—not just a spectator.
Unfortunately, these hard economic times have forced millions of people
to cut back on charitable giving, and our supporters are no exception.
That's why we're asking all our readers to chip in whatever you can.
This is especially important if you're among the 90% of our readers who
have never donated before and are fortunate enough to be able to give
right now.
We're just a few days away from the end of our Mid-Year Fundraising
Drive, and we're counting on you to make sure we don't fall short. Click
here to make a donation and help us reach our goal of $75,000.
