California is officially moving forward with Governor Newsom’s ballot measure to let voters decide whether the legislature can redraw the state’s congressional map ahead of the midterms.
This is big. The entire reason Republicans are gerrymandering in states like Texas in the first place is to keep control of the House when they know they’re at risk of losing it. That makes this our chance to help undo the unfair advantage Republicans are gaining, all while protecting the democratic process across the country.

While polling data shows a majority of voters do support the ballot measure, it’s going to be close—so every vote, every phone call, and every door knocked will make a difference.
The Swing Left community is uniquely positioned to make a difference here. In 2024, you were a big part of countering the national rightward shift in California, raising $1.4 million and contacting more than 500,000 voters in the state’s most competitive districts—ultimately helping Democrats win four critical House seats.
Now we need to do it all again this year, and we have just 10 weeks to take action and turn out voters before the election is held on November 4th. Winning back Democratic control of the House is essential to putting a check on Trump and the MAGA agenda. This ballot measure has the power to substantially aid our ability to do so.
To that end, we’re also working on canvassing opportunities, and we’ll make sure to reach out again as soon as those are available.
