National Guard troops continue to roam the streets of our nation’s capitol for a third week after Donald Trump deployed them to “to crack down on crime and violence.” And they’ll soon be authorized to carry service-issued weapons.
Now, he’s threatening to deploy thousands more troops to 19 states under the guise of protecting Americans. All while he undermes life-saving gun violence prevention measures, putting lives further at risk.

President Trump claims that crime in Washington, D.C., is at an all-time high – this is a lie to justify armed intimidation and over-policing.
This is the same Trump who inspired a mob to attack the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and proceeded to pardon the violent criminals who were convicted in the attack.
Crime in D.C. was at a 30-year low when Trump took office. This is directly thanks to the investment that the Biden Administration made in community-based violence intervention groups in D.C. and its passage of the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
Donald Trump is not only ignoring the facts, but is dismantling the life-saving actions that Biden took to keep Americans safe from gun violence.
