We’ve seen what’s possible when a committed group of friends, neighbors, and community members come together to stand up for what’s right. In the weeks and months ahead, it’s our moral responsibility to turn this movement into meaningful, tangible action that will have a lasting impact.

What might those actions look like?

Establishing civilian review boards to hold accountable any officers who abuse their power.
Ensuring that we respond appropriately to those who struggle with mental health challenges, instead of resorting to use of force.
Taking a long, hard look at the training, tactics, and equipment used by police forces, reforming where necessary, and providing increased oversight and transparency.

I plan to take all of these concerns and more to our special legislative session in August. Time is of the essence: Our communities can’t wait any longer.
