Hi John,
Today is Oregon Adoption Day!
On Monday – and every 25th of August from now on – we’ll celebrate and honor adoptive parents and children statewide.
This statewide celebration comes thanks to HB 2019, Republican Representative Lucetta Elmer’s pro-life bill that received unanimous, bipartisan approval in this year’s legislative session.
As you may know, Oregon Adoption Day is personal for Representative Elmer: August 25th was the day she herself had been adopted as a baby.
“Adoption is an act of courage,” Elmer said on the House floor. “It requires sacrifice, selflessness, and a whole lot of faith from all sides. It weaves together lives in ways that reflect the best of our humanity, and it is worthy of recognition.”
Adoption shines a light on the intrinsic value of every human being and the beauty of choosing life.
Oregon Right to Life fully supports this life-affirming celebration and thanks Rep. Elmer for putting forward this beautiful piece of legislation.
I’m hopeful that Oregon Adoption Day sets a precedent for the passage of many life-affirming bills in the future.
Join us in celebrating Oregon Adoption Day today, August 25th!
Because everyone deserves an advocate,
Lois Anderson
