The Women’s and Fair Practices Departments won’t let COVID-19 stop us from uplifting our members and empowering through education and community! In lieu of an in-person diversity week training, we are proudly presenting all AFGE members with a series of virtual trainings which will provide participants with the knowledge and power needed to become stronger advocates for their fellow union siblings.
Whether you’re interested in how to uplift women in the workplace, want to learn how to be a better coordinator or organizer, learn how to be active beyond the workplace, or want to learn about EEO protections in the workplace — we have a training for you! Below is an overview of our virtual trainings which will replace this year’s in-person conference. Included below are the registration links and event descriptions.
Virtual Sister's Keeper Training (July 31st – August 2nd): The Virtual Sister's Keeper Summit will be a safe place for women to address the issues faced in their workplace, communities and union. The Sister's Keeper Summit is a women-only space. Women identifying participants will be provided with insights on how to lift up their own voice and the voices of their colleagues in their communities and workplaces. Click here to register.
AFGE Coordinator Bootcamp (August 8th & 9th): This training is designed to sharpen the understanding of the role of a coordinator as an elected or appointed leader. Whether a Women's, Fair Practices, YOUNG or Pride Coordinator this class will enhance your knowledge of key civil, human, women and workers’ rights issues. Participants will learn how to be an effective coordinator in their local, and how to become and encourage others to become union activists. This course will be led by current HRC coordinators and will provide attendees with a history of AFGE, how to properly represent allies in the workplace as well as information about legislation, mobilization, and member education. Click here to register.
Virtual Human Rights Training (August 15th & 16th): This training will offer a diverse option of courses that will vary from EEO, racial justice, reasonable accommodations, diversity and inclusion, and community activism. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of breakout sessions which will last two hours each. Click here to register.
AFGE YOUNG Leaders Training (August 29th & 30th): This training is designed to provide young unionists with the tools to be successful AFGE activists and leaders. The class will include topics such as a leadership round-table, Roberts Rules, how to build a professional resume, the role of money in unions, how to be an effective leader, and the power of voting.
