Dear John,
In 1965, when Medicaid and Medicare were signed into law, America made an historic promise to her own people: that no one would be denied health care because they were aging, sick, or poor. Today, that promise is being broken — by the GOP’s “Big Brutal Budget.”
This unconscionable new law rips $1 trillion — that’s trillion with a “T” — out of Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, marking the largest health care cuts in U.S. history. On top of that, an automatic $490 billion Medicare cut is set to hit in the coming years.
These cuts aren’t abstract numbers. They mean:
-
15 million Americans losing their health coverage
-
hundreds of rural hospitals closing, and
-
1.2 million jobs disappearing by 2029.
Worst of all, experts estimate there will be 51,000 preventable deaths every year if these cuts take effect. That’s entire communities left without doctors, families bankrupted by medical bills, and lives cut short — all to pay for massive tax cuts for the ultra-rich.
Send a direct message to Congress now: Protect Medicaid and Medicare. Stop the cuts. Invest in care, not cruelty.
All of this suffering is not inevitable — it’s a deliberate choice.
Republicans are slashing health care so they can hand tax breaks to billionaires. It’s a manufactured tragedy that sacrifices the health and security of ordinary Americans to enrich the wealthiest 1%.
As Medicaid and Medicare mark their 60th anniversary, these programs that provide a lifeline to more than 100 million people are under assault — at the very moment we need them most.
The public is clear: Americans overwhelmingly support Medicaid and Medicare. A whopping 83% view Medicaid favorably, including a majority of Republicans. But unless Congress hears from us now, these devastating cuts will stand, and some lawmakers are already threatening even deeper ones.
The stakes could not be higher: health care for millions of people, jobs in every community, and tens of thousands of lives each year. Congress must choose now, and choose wisely: to serve billionaires, or to save Americans.
Tell Congress: Protect Medicaid and Medicare. Don’t let the greed of billionaires shut down health care for ordinary Americans.
Thank you for taking action to stop this preventable tragedy.
