I read something in the New York Times recently that I found deeply unsettling: Civil lawsuits against major polluters plummeted during Trump’s first six months in office — dropping by nearly two-thirds compared to the previous administration.

Settlements that once forced these companies to pay millions for environmental violations have all but disappeared.

When the federal government refuses to hold polluters accountable, it’s up to state Attorneys General to step in and protect their people. That's exactly what we've seen from JanePAC-endorsed champions like Attorney General Keith Ellison in Minnesota and Attorney General Rob Bonta in California, who have led the charge in filing lawsuits to protect their states from Trump's destructive agenda.

But not every Attorney General is willing to fight. Some are more interested in protecting their corporate donors than protecting people.

Just look at Virginia's current Attorney General, Jason Miyares. While polluters poison and threaten Virginia's coastal communities, Miyares stays silent. He's accepted $700,000 this year from Dominion Energy — Virginia's largest corporate polluter — and it shows.

Instead of holding these companies accountable in court, he's spent his time suing to block EPA pollution limits and fighting clean energy standards. So we’re not holding back in Virginia this year.

We can elect Jay Jones — a leader who understands that corporate polluters must be held accountable, not coddled. He'll use the full power of the Attorney General's office to take polluters to court and demand justice for communities on the frontlines of environmental destruction.

When federal enforcement fails, we need state leaders who will fill the gap. We need Attorneys General who work for people, not polluters. And we need your help to elect them.
